Key Results

Define measurable outcomes for your objectives with key results and link them to roadmap initiatives.

Key results define the measurable outcomes that tell you whether an objective is being achieved. Each objective can have multiple key results.

Adding a Key Result

  1. Open an objective by clicking on it
  2. Click Add Key Result
  3. Fill in the details:
    • Title — A specific, measurable outcome (e.g., "Reduce broken links from 47 to 0")
    • Description — Additional context about how to measure or achieve it
  4. Click Create to add the key result

What Makes a Good Key Result

Key results should be:

  • Specific — Clear about what will change ("Improve blog content scores" is vague; "Raise average blog content score from 62 to 80" is specific)
  • Measurable — You can verify whether it is achieved with a number or a yes/no
  • Achievable — Realistic within the objective's time frame
  • Relevant — Directly tied to the parent objective

Linking to Roadmap Initiatives

Key results can be linked to one or more roadmap initiatives. This creates traceability between goals and work:

  1. Open a key result
  2. In the Linked Initiatives section, select initiatives from your roadmap
  3. As linked initiatives are completed, the key result reflects that progress

This connection means you can always answer "what work are we doing to achieve this goal?" and "why are we doing this work?"

Linking to Insights

Key results can also be linked to insights from your content audit. This grounds your goals in real data:

  1. Open a key result
  2. In the Linked Insights section, select relevant insights
  3. The insight data provides baseline metrics for the key result

Completing Key Results

Mark a key result as complete when the measurable outcome has been achieved. When all key results for an objective are complete, the objective itself can be marked as achieved.

Best Practices

  1. Aim for 3-5 key results per objective
  2. Each key result should be independently verifiable
  3. Link every key result to at least one roadmap initiative — if there is no planned work, the key result may not be actionable
  4. Review key results weekly to update progress and catch issues early
